Welcome to my Webpage!

Welcome to my webpage!

Recently, a young man, hearing one of my many stories of past exploits, asked if there was anything I hadn’t done. The answer is quite a bit, actually, but I understood why he was asking. So far I’ve been a mother, a teacher, a college professor and a cafeteria lady (in that order). I’ve been to the World Series (twice), Hung out on the set of a Robert Downey, Jr. movie (I was chaperoning an underaged extra), interviewed best-selling author Janet Evanovich about her pet parrot, and written four published books. I am a genealogist, an expert on parrots, and am licensed to teach elementary ed, History, English and Humanities.

My mother suspects that I don't have an attention span, but actually, I'm just a very curious person.  This makes me the perfect freelance writer - any time something interests me, I can go off and explore it until I know enough to write about it, which finances me while I go off in pursuit of my next curiosity.  I've written about such varied subjects as postcards that a World War I "doughboy" sent home (for Postcard Collector magazine), hyperthyroidism in cats (Cat Fancy), romance novels that feature parrots as secondary characters (Bird Talk), and how to find photographs of your ancestors (Ancestry).  I am the author of three books on keeping different species of exotic birds as pets (Lovebirds, Caiques, and The Cockatiel Handbook, all published by Barron's Educational Series, Inc)

My first novel, a romantic comedy called Love's Little Instruction Book will be released as an ebook by Crimson Romance on August 20, 2012.

I hope you enjoy it.
